Studio Intensives ~
I offer individualized weekend Studio Intensives in Fortuna, California, in beautiful Humboldt County. Learn while working one-on-one with me in my studio over a mutually-agreed upon weekend. No need to wait for a class or group workshop to happen. Learn what you want to learn when you want to learn it.
Each Intensive covers one of the areas listed below. I will also design individual Intensives to suit your specific needs. Fees for Weekend Intensives include most materials.
- DISCHARGING COLOR FROM FABRIC ~ Learn to use thiourea dioxide (thiox) and bleach solution to remove color from all natural fibers. Use soy wax resist and shibori resist techniques with discharging.
- SHIBORI TECHNIQUES WITH FIBER REACTIVE DYES ~ Learn Japanese shibori methods of folding, wrapping, pleating, stitching and clamping fabrics to create unique dyed designs.
- USING ACID DYES ON PROTEIN FIBERS ~ Learn how to mix and use acid dyes on silk and wool fiber and fabric, including shibori, direct application and various methods of processing acid dyes.
- DECONSTRUCTED SCREEN PRINTING ~ Learn to build unusual patterned "silk" screens and print fabrics with thickened fiber reactive dyes.
- FABRIC PRINTING WITH THICKENED DYES ~ Learn different techniques of hand printing unusual, one-of-a-kind fabrics.
- SOY WAX BATIK ~ Learn to use soy wax as a resist on fabric, and paint or print with thickened fiber reactive dyes to create multi layered designs.
- STAMPING and RUBBING ~ Cut and create your own stamps and rubbing plates, and print fabric using textile paints and oil paint sticks.
- DESIGNING ART QUILTS WITH HANDMADE FABRIC ~ Learn to design art quilts with your own hand dyed, printed, stamped and painted fabrics.
- ECO DYEING ~ Learn techniques to dye and print fabric with local plant materials and found objects.
